Think tank

The Center was founded by former US President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, in partnership with Emory University to advance peace and health worldwide. The Center has helped improve the lives of people in more than 65 countries by resolving conflicts; advancing democracy, human rights, and economic opportunities; preventing diseases; improving mental healthcare; and teaching farmers how to increase crop production. The Center is guided by five principles: (1) emphasize action and results and, based on careful research and analysis, take timely action on important and pressing issues; (2) do not duplicate the effective efforts of others; (3) address difficult problems and recognize the possibility of failure as an acceptable risk; (4) be nonpartisan and always adopt a neutral stance in dispute resolution activities; and (5) believe that people can improve their lives when provided with the necessary skills, knowledge, and access to resources.
