Think tank

JFIR was founded on the private initiative of Dr. Okita Saburo, Mr. Hattori Ichiro, and 61 other independent citizens from business, academic, political, and mass media circles of Japan. JFIR dedicates to the improved understanding of Japanese foreign policy and international relations. JFIR conducts a variety of activities, including hosting conferences, organizing research programs, and publishing research reports and policy recommendations. The most significant of such activities are carried out by the Policy Council, which is engaged in policy research and assists members in producing policy recommendations. JFIR adopts no institutional position on issues of foreign policy, though its members are encouraged not only to analyze but also to propose alternatives regarding such issues. The views expressed in such recommendations and the responsibilities for their contents belong to the members who sign them.
