Bioversity International is an international research institute with a mandate to advance the conservation and use of genetic diversity for food and agriculture. Bioversity International's purpose is to investigate the conservation and use of agricultural biodiversity in order to achieve better nutrition, improve smallholders' livelihoods and enhance agricultural sustainability. One of Bioversity International’s key strengths is the organisations ability to connect people and projects from right across the globe. Bioversity International is a recognized leader in agricultural biodiversity research working with more than 700 partners around the world to improve the lives of smallholder farmers and rural communities. Through the website and outreach initiatives, Biodiversity International publicises a huge varity of local, national and international initiatives relating to human well-being and plant conservation. Bioversity International is a member of the CGIAR Consortium and a partner with Rome-based food and agriculture agencies Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and World Food Programme (WFP).
