Center for Climate Systems Modeling
The Center for Climate Systems Modeling is a research center based at ETH Zurich. It is a joint initiative between ETH Zurich, MeteoSwiss, Empa, and Agroscope Reckenholz-Tänikon (ART), with the main objective to improve the understanding of the Earth’s climate system, and the capability of mankind to predict weather and climate. The Center for Climate Systems Modeling (C2SM) has been established to address the scientifically challenging and socially relevant issue of climate change. Its goal is to foster and coordinate the development and application of climate models operating at various scales to improve our capability to understand and predict the Earth’s climate, including its weather systems, chemical composition and hydrological cycle. The main objectives of the Center are to develop the tools and methods necessary to bridge the gap between the different spatio-temporal scales and between the different (atmospheric, hydrological, oceanographic and terrestrial) components of the climate system. In turn, this will increase the understanding and sharpen the predictive capability of climate variations and change on time scales from days to millennia.
