ICONE was created on March 10, 2003, in response to the need to provide the government and the private sector with applied research and research on trade and trade policy, mainly related to agriculture and agribusiness. Among the main researches developed by ICONE in recent years are those related to the agricultural negotiations of the Doha Round of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and dozens of simulations at the request of the Brazilian government, which serve as a technical subsidy for the position in the G-20. Since 2008, ICONE has been developing research and projects on land use dynamics in Brazil, with emphasis on the modeling of the performance of the Brazilian agricultural sector in terms of supply, demand, exports, area planted and profitability and elaboration of quantitative projections trade in agro-industrial products. This model was used by ICONE in the 'Low Carbon Study Project - Brazil', coordinated by the World Bank and with the participation of several organizations in the country.
